What to Expect
Starting therapy can feel unfamiliar at first. We’re here to create a safe, supportive space where you can feel heard, understood, and supported through the process.
How much guidance will I receive in therapy?
Sometimes in therapy, you may want someone to tell you what they would do in your situation. While guidance and support are part of the process, our approach also encourages you to reconnect with and trust your own inner voice.
For many of us, this can feel difficult at first… especially if we’ve spent years prioritizing the opinions, expectations, or needs of others over our own. Through therapy, we work to help you build greater self-trust, clarity, and confidence in what feels meaningful and right for you.

What if talking about things feels difficult?
Talking about personal experiences, emotions, or difficult decisions can feel vulnerable… and at times, therapy may bring up feelings that feel heavier before things begin to improve. While this can be a natural part of the process, you should never feel alone in it. We encourage open communication throughout your care so we can support you in getting the most from your experience at W Integrative Counselling & Wellness.
At its core, therapy is about being heard, understood, and supported in a space that feels accepting and non-judgmental. It’s the experience of having someone genuinely listen with care and curiosity about your life, your experiences, and what matters most to you.

Will my experiences be understood?
It’s natural for people to try to understand others through the lens of their own life experiences. While this is a very human response, no one can fully assume how another person feels or interprets what they’ve been through. We all experience and make meaning of life differently.
At W Integrative Counselling & Wellness, our approach is grounded in understanding your unique perspective… how you experience the world, what shapes your responses, and why certain experiences affect you the way they do. Rather than making assumptions, we aim to meet you with curiosity, empathy, and respect for your individual story.

Is there a “right” way to do therapy?
Therapy is not about telling you how you should feel or giving you a “correct” way to move through difficult experiences. Everyone responds to stress, trauma, and life challenges differently, which is why our approach focuses on understanding what works best for you… not forcing a one-size-fits-all process.
In the beginning, therapy can sometimes feel unfamiliar, uncomfortable, or even frustrating as you begin exploring and untangling the things that brought you here. These feelings are completely normal, especially early on.
With patience, support, and space to move at your own pace, many people begin to experience greater clarity, emotional relief, and a reduced sense of overwhelm around the issues they’ve been carrying.
